The Floral Stool is an emotive sculptural seating piece that echoes the heritage of Portuguese Romantic art, adorned with soft botanical motifs hand-rendered in rich oil paint against a sleek glossy black base. It harmonises time-honoured fine painting methods with avant-garde modern furniture silhouettes. This artistic furnishing originates from meticulous hand oil painting, which reinterprets classic floral imagery with a contemporary aesthetic. The creative brief tasked Portugal’s celebrated Santa Bárbara workshop―famous for precise, museum-grade restoration painting work―to revive age-old pictorial techniques for a functional art stool. Drawing on generations of refined artisanal skill, master craftsmen reimagined the painting craft typically reserved for antique furniture and wall murals to suit this sculptural form. The finished piece emerges as an unparalleled work of art brimming with exclusive grace and intricate detailing that can only be realised through fully manual creation, boasting exceptional gallery-worthy pictorial depth and texture.
